We have quite the team of animal friends here at BITS. Some provide therapeutic services, some help in teaching handling skills, and some help around the facility in other ways.
To help our guests identify them better, we thought we would give them their own page.
THE HORSES
CEDAR
Cedar is our "big horse," a Belgium cross born in 2012, standing at 16.2 hands. Cedar joined our herd in May of 2021. He's a gentle giant and is a real charmer.
GIDEON
Gideon is our handsome Haflinger gelding, born in 1999 and standing at 14.2 hands. He is a popular mount for many of our students.
NEMO
Previously, Nemo lived across the street from the barn, assisting at summer camps in 2023, but he has now joined our herd and works wonderfully alongside our team of horses.
MAGGIE
Margarita (aka Maggie) is a favorite among her furry friends. This sweet little lady is perfect for our smaller riders.
BUD
Bud is an chestnut colored Arabian gelding born in 2004. He joined BITS in December 2018. He's quite handsome when he moves with his tail up in the air.
Mason
Mason is a 15 year old bay thoroughbred gelding. He arrived in May 2023. Mason is trained in both English and Western and loves the trails. Despite a tough background he is level headed with a great work ethic and he LOVES his friends!
THE MINIS
FLYER
Gypsy and Flyer are a miniature horse mother and son team who came to us in December 2015. Sometimes they join Mystique on her off-site adventures.
MR JINGLES
Mr. Jingles, the donkey, came to BITS with Pretzel in the spring of 2018. They were best friends, looking out for each other. Mr. Jingles is very popular when he "goes out on the road" to events.
MISSY (MYSTIQUE)
Mystique (Missy) is a silver dappled miniature horse who joined BITS in October 2014. She is by far the youngest horse here, born in 2012. She is a most curious animal. She's attended FisherCat games and travels to libraries, retirement homes and -- her favorite -- ice cream stands!
Kiwi
Kiwi is a lovely 5 year old miniature paint horse, perfect for our little riders! She has one brown eye and one brilliant blue. She knows how to ride and drive (individual and in a team). Kiwi loves kiwis and strawberry frosted donuts!
THE REST OF THE GANG
SAGE
Sage is part of our resident rodent control team. She and her pal Boots are always happy to take a break to receive a friendly petting.
BOOTS
The other half of our resident rodent control team. Boots has a distinct ring on his tail making him easy to spot as he hunts and plays around the barn.
BUSTER
Buster is guaranteed to make you smile. He is one of the friendliest goats you'll ever meet and loves to meet new people!
IN MEMORY OF
PRETZEL 1993-2023
Pretzel was a true working pony! A chestnut gelding, born in 1993, he was a dream working with our smaller students. He is greatly missed!
GYPSY 2000-2024
Gypsy was a special girl here at the farm. Living up to her barn color (pink!), Gypsy was the sweet princess who always let us know who was boss. She shared a special bond with her son, Flyer, who still lives at the farm.
